Three men, including at least one who has previously claimed to be a member of the far-right Australia Defence League, were arrested by police outside the Lakemba Mosque at around 8.40pm on Monday. Police said the men were allegedly involved in a fight that broke out after the men made derogatory comments towards worshippers attending the mosque.
Two of the three will appear in Parramatta Local Court today, charged with affray and behaving in an offensive manner, while the third will appear in court next year.
Following their arrest, two of the men were taken to the nearby Canterbury Hospital, where they received treatment for minor injuries. A policeman is also receiving hospital care after suffering a fractured shoulder.
